It was years ago now – more than 10- when I first saw what was to become this Bugatti Galibier 16C Concept car. It was the Bugatti EB 218, a concept that shared the same fastback shape and uber luxury stance as this close to production Bugatti Galibier 16C automotive. Car lovers have known for a while now that Bugatti was to follow up its money losing 16/4 Veyron over a million dollar car, with other vehicles. Previously I thought that the tourbillon watch would be some type of modified Parmigiani Type 370. Bugatti wasn’t being clear as to what Parmigiani watch it will be, but it turned out not to be the Parmigiani Bugatti Type 370 Centenaire watch. This timepiece has been around for a while (since 2004) and has always been connected with Bugatti. Seen here is the newest version that comes in gold or platinum and has an engraving pattern all over the same meant to look like the famous tightly woven metal of the Bugatti ‘gravestone’ looking grill.

So the included watch will be this shown new Parmigiani Bugatti Tourbillon. A watch that has four purposes. First it will fit into at least two spots on the car (center of the dashboard, as well as near the instrument panel cluster), fit into a wrist watch strap module,armani watches, fit into a pocket watch module, and bit into a desk clock module. I am not sure whether the watch will be wound somehow while being docked into the car. This should be the case though right?

It is clear that the watch will have the time, exposed tourbillon, as well as a prominent power reserve indicator. The watch is purposefully made to be easy to read from a distance.

Frankly I am glad that the watch in the car is not the Parmigiani Type 370,panerai watches, as wouldn’t even wear the thing as I find them pretty ugly and impractical, but I like concept nonetheless. Placing one in a car dashboard would look awkward, and would also make it really hard to tell the time as the face is relatively small. So I like the Tourbillon watch enough, and am excited to learn more about it, such as will you be able to get the watch alone? Or just with the car? Coming just with the Bugatti 16C car will make the Parmigiani Bugatti Tourbillon watch quite the collector’s item years from now. Overall I think the timepiece is sufficiently impressive to accompany the uber luxury land yacht yet, but it doesn’t get me as excited as the car – which is part of the point of a car clock anyway.

I will leave it to the more dedicated car writers to fill you in on the all the goodies about the Bugatti Galibier 16C car as it slowly moves from concept to reality (which I am pretty sure of), instead you can relish in all the cool watch lover bones that Bugatti and Parmigiani threw out to us. Ordinarily I would chat for a bit about why a car would even have a removable tourbillon watch, and how that would all work… though here I do not. We are talking about Bugatti here, the Disneyland thinkers of the car word. It does not need to make sense. It just needs to tickle us in places we didn’t know could be tickled. I think it has like eight chrome exhaust pipes. Super cool! Then again, from the side the 16C looks a bit like a Porsche Panamera that just engulfed John DeLorean’s chrome dream, like a tricky suitcase of cocaine planted by the FBI did to his future.

I’ve had my eye on Tiffany & Co. watches for a while. The company has a new distribution relationship with Swatch, in addition to carrying Patek Philippe watches. This means they have some serious clout in the industry. Still, there has been an intriguing line of Tiffany & Co. branded watches over their history.

In several instances I have mentioned the Tiffany & Co. Streamerica watch (design by Jorg Hysek). Tiffany & Co. does not design their watches in-house, but instead will buy good designs, or commission them. The Streamerica line of watches is no longer being made, but I anticipate a resurgence. Regardless, the newest line of men’s watches by Tiffany & Co. is the Mark T-57 line. There are several iterations to the new line of watches, still some are no longer being made. There is the three hand model, a chronograph, and a retrograde chronograph. The retrograde chronograph Mark T-57 is the newest model, but I will focus on the latter two.

I stepped into the Tiffany & Co. store in San Francisco on Post St in Union Square yesterday to handle the watches. They had three of the watches on display, and each were the chronograph models, one an automatic, the other two quartz watches. The styling of the watch is very different, but I am convinced it has roots in the two-tone Movado Gentry watch. The Mark t-57 comes into models, a two tone with steel and vulcanized rubber covered steel, and an all steel version. Further, the three hand model comes with a really nice quality rubber strap for the sportiest look.

My favorite part of the Mark T-57 is the hybrid styling of the watch. It retains a Tiffany &amp,omega watches; Co. classiness, but maintains a very sport like demeanor. Further, my pick is the two tone models for their unique look. The all steel version is a bit heftier, but not as distinct looking. For the price, I would also stay away from the quartz models. The movement is a decent quality ETA chronograph movement, but you can get the same movement in watches that are a fraction of the price. The ETA chronograph does add a second timer (timing two events), but but the overall luxury appeal of the watch is a bit lost to me. If you must have a quartz watch,breitling watches, then so be it. Alternatively, there are automatic versions of the three-hand and chronograph version available. The three-hand version has an ETA 2892-2, and I believe the same movement with a chronograph module, or a modified Valjoux 7750 for the chronograph version of the watch. Both watches are certified chronometers, which is nice. The rear of the mechanical watches has a window with a view of Tiffany & Co.’s common black finished rotor. It is a nice touch.

The face of the watch features the classic Tiffany & Co. love for Roman numerals, but done in a subdued manner. Of paramount focus is that hands, which more for good visibility. The crown at the 10 o’clock position actually functions to turn the rotating bezel, which can also be done by simply rotating the bezel with your hard. It is a nice little gimmick, but I’m not too convinced of its usefulness.
One of the most interesting aspects of this watch is the use of vulcanized rubber which I have not seen before. In pictures it may look like PVD, but it is not. A rubber treatment is applied over steel for a soft, slightly rubber touch. The color is a dark gray. To be honest, I am not sure how well this material holds up over time, though it is certainly unique and interesting. Personally, I am willing to give it a test.

The rubber strap on the three-hand version is a very high grade of rubber that makes for a lovely fit. The deployment is a delicate array of metal and rubber that has a very rich feeling to it. The watch is very hard to categorize, but Tiffany & Co. prefers it that way. As the San Francisco Tiffany & Co. store only had chronograph versions on display, I was a bit disappointed when I could not find a three-hand model. Only to realize on my way out that the security guard was wearing just the watch I wanted to see. Now I want to be a security guard as Tiffany & Co. Look out for more Tiffany & Co. watches, as they often impress as much as the other brands the store carry.

When you consider Patek Philippe’s rich history of watch-making, it is not hard to understand how they manage to continually exceed the expectations of their clients. Whilst it may not be common knowledge, Patek Philippe is the creator of one of the most complicated mechanical watch ever made, the Calibre 89, created for the 150th anniversary of the company in 1989. It holds 33 complications, including the date of Easter, a thermometer, time of sunrise, equation of time (which is the difference, over the course of a year, between time as read from a sundial and a clock), sidereal time (the measure of the position of the Earth in its rotation around its axis), and many other indicators. The Calibre 89 is also able to add a day to February for leap years while leaving out the extra day for every 100 year interval.

Whilst slightly less complicated, Patek Philippe’s new offering holds true to the brand’s history of innovation and precision. Five years in the making, the new grand complication, Ref. 5207, comes in platinum and features a minute repeater, tourbillon and instant perpetual calendar with original windows, for which two patents are pending. The instant changing of all the date displays is a supplementary complication comprising 212 interacting components. This is one of the brand’s most complicated wristwatches to date, and only a few will be produced each year.
